Cameron stretched as he woke up and swiped across his face. As his eyes adjusted to the sunlight, he was confused about where he was, but soon remembered the details of what had transpired at his house.

He tried to figure out how he ended up sleeping on the floor, but after that second drink, just about everything was a blur. Hearing a small groan, he looked down to see Shane sleeping next to him.

He panicked as he sat up, but clutched his chest in relief, once he realized they were still fully dressed. Cameron noticed they had made a pallet on the floor, but he scratched his head confusingly.

“We have beds. Two of them,” he whispered to himself as he got up. Shane rolled to the other side, so he pulled the blanket back over her and then went to his room to shower.

Once he was clean and dressed, he took a deep breath and sat on the edge of the bed. “Let’s get this shit over with.” He sighed as he dialed his mother’s number.

“Hello?” Selena answered in an unsure tone.

“Hey Ma,” Cameron mumbled.

“Cam? Where are you calling me from?”

“A resort. I don’t have my phone, so you can reach me at this number for the next few days.” His finger made the phone cord spring back and forth as his nerves go the best of him.

Selena went quiet and could hear him breathing hard. “Is everything okay? Why would you not bring your phone with you?”

“Because I didn’t want Averi to find me. She, uh— I caught her cheating on me last night. With one of my teammates.”

Again, the line went silent and Cameron braced himself for the lecture. “Aww baby. I’m so sorry. Where are you? I’ll come get you right now. You don’t need to be in some hotel all by yourself. You need to be with family!”

Cameron looked to the door and then strained his face. “I’m actually…not alone. So I’m good, but thank you.”

“Oh. Well that’s nice that someone came with you, but I really don’t like you not having a cellphone!”

“It’s only for a few days, Ma. I should be back before the week is over. I just needed to clear my head and being in that house just wasn’t doing it for me. You understand, right?”

“I understand Cam. And I really am sorry that you had to go through this. It wasn’t meant to be because there is something far greater out there for you.” She frowned. “I love you Cameron. Keep praying and let me know if you need anything.”

“I love you, too, Ma.” He was surprised at how well the conversation went and it made him feel better. “I’ll talk to you later. Okay?”

“Okay baby. Have fun and tell Shane I said hey!” She added before she hung up.

Cameron slowly removed the receiver from his ear and hung up the phone. “Yeah, I should’ve seen that coming.” He laughed at himself, before hearing movement coming from the living room.

Opening his door, he saw Shane putting the pillows back on the couch, so he came out to help her.
